General Guidelines
- Wilmington Public Library District cardholders may place holds on equipment through the circulation/catalog system. Loan rules for equipment vary. Please refer to each type for rule.
- The circulation period for most equipment is 2 weeks. Renewals are not permitted.
- Type of Equipment- Equipment is checked out as a bagged kit and all pieces must be returned together. Certain equipment is available for circulation only to patrons who are valid cardholders of Wilmington Public Library District cards. Return of all equipment must occur during library business hours in person. In the event the library does not open due to an emergency closing, the borrower retains the equipment at no charge and must return the equipment when the library reopens. Equipment will be assessed at time of return and once accepted as being in good working condition the borrower is relieved of any liability. Library equipment may not be returned in the drop box or at another library for delivery through RAILS delivery. Any problems with equipment during checkout should be immediately reported to the library.
A. Mobile Hotspot
- Mobile Hot Spots may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.
- Users may check out one mobile hotspot at one time.
- If any part of a mobile hotspot kit is lost, the user must pay the complete replacement cost of the item lost.
- Beacon Mobile Hotspots are available to Wilmington Public Library Cardholders only.
- Hotspots are limited to one hotspot per family.
- Holds can be placed but no specific date can be guaranteed.
- Check out period is for one week with no renewals.
- Overdue fines are $2.00 per day.
- After 5 days late, the hotspot will be “bricked” or service will be shut off and replacement of hotspot package will be billed to the patron. If the patron returns the equipment before a new replacement has been arranged, we will accept the return of the undamaged equipment, bill the patron the maximum overdue fine and collection fee if assessed, and a hotspot check out restriction of three months will be placed on the patron’s account. Prior to bricking, all efforts will be made to negotiate a return.
- Users must sign an agreement before checkout showing these terms have been explained to them.
- Sprint 4G LTE Service coverage is what we are able to offer. Service is subject to signal strength in the area you take the device.
- Hotspots are not filtered.
- “Net-Yes” must be on file for patrons under the age of 16 in order to checkout a hotspot.
B. Chromebooks
- Chromebooks may not be borrowed through InterLibrary Loan.
- Users may check out one Chromebook at a time.
- If any part of a Chromebook is lost, the user must pay the complete replacement coast of the lost item.
- Chromebooks are available to Wilmington Public Library District cardholders only.
- Chromebooks are limited to one Chromebook per family.

- Check out period is for one week with no renewals.
- Overdue fines are $2.00 per day.
- After five days late, the Chromebooks will be “bricked” or service will be shut off and replacement of the Chromebook will be billed to the patron. If the patron returns the equipment before a new replacement has been arranged, we will accept the return of the undamaged equipment, bill the patron the maximum overdue fine and collection fee if assessed, and a Chromebook checkout restriction of three months will be placed on the patron’s account.
- Users must sign an agreement before checkout showing these terms have been explained to them.
- Chromebooks are not to be returned in the book drop. Chromebooks returned in the book drop are subject to a $5.00 fine or the replacement cost of the Chromebook if it is damaged because of the deposit.
C. Nook E-Readers
- Nooks are able to be checked out only at the Wilmington Public Library by any library’s patron, but must be returned in person. Additionally, Nooks are not hold-able by any patrons but Wilmington Public Library cardholders. Nooks are limited to one Nook per cardholder.
- Nooks are limited to one nook per card holder.
- Overdue fine for Nooks are $2.00 per day.
- Users must sign an agreement before check-out.
- Nooks are not allowed to be returned in the book drop. Users who return Nooks in the book drop will be subject to a $5.00 fine or cost of replacement if Nook is damaged because of the deposit.
D. Launchpad Tablets
1. Launchpads are available for checkout only at Wilmington Public Library by any public library patron, but must be returned in person. Additionally, Launchpads are not hold-able by any patrons but Wilmington Public Library cardholders. The Launchpad is limited to one Launchpad per household. 2. Overdue fines for the Launchpad are $2.00 per day. 3. Users must sign an agreement form prior to checkout. 4. Launchpads are not allowed to be returned in the book drop. Users who return Launchpads in the book drop will be subject to a $5.00 fine or cost of replacement if the Launchpad is damaged because of the deposit.
E. Guitars
- Guitars are currently available for participants of our guitar program only. Guitar checkout consists of a kit that contains a guitar, strap, case, and tuner. Cardholders are responsible for returning all parts of the guitar kit or pay the fees associated with any missing parts.
- Guitars may be renewed as long as participant is still attending classes.
- Overdue fines for guitars are .50 per day.
- Guitars must be returned at the Circulation counter.
- Guitars are limited to one guitar per cardholder.
F. Wii Console
- Wii Consoles are available for checkout only at the Wilmington Public Library District by any public library patron, but must be returned in person. Additionally, Will Consoles are not hold-able by any patrons but Wilmington Public Library cardholders. The Wii Console is limited to one Wii Console per household.
- Overdue fines for the Wii Console are $2.00 per day.
- Users must sign an agreement form prior to checkout.
- Wii Consoles are not allowed to be returned in the book drop. Users who return the Wii Console in the book drop will be subject to a $5.00 fine or cost of replacement if the Wii Console is damaged because of the deposit.
G. Library of Things Items
- Library of Things items are available for checkout only at the Wilmington Public Library by any public library patron in good standing, but must be returned in person. Items are for one week checkout. Additionally, Library of Things items are not hold-able by any patrons but Wilmington Public Library cardholders.
- Overdue fines for the Library of Things items are $2.00 per day.
- Users must sign an agreement form prior to checkout.
- Library of Things items are not allowed to be returned in the book drop. Users who return Library of Things items in the book drop will be subject to a $5.00 fine or cost of replacement if the Library of Things item is damaged.
- Library of Things items, especially cooking items, that are returned dirty, will be fined an additional cleaning fee of $5.00, or will be offered the chance to clean it themselves.
- Because some items are not intended for use by children, we will limit checkout of such items to cardholders 18 years of age or older. Items such as power tools are cataloged in such a way that children cannot check out said items.
- Items which become long overdue (i.e. more than 5 days late) may result in a three month suspension from borrowing items from this special collection.
- Up to two renewals will be allowed as long as no holds exist.
